COINNEAMH SA CHÈITEAN ’24!
MAY ’24 MEETUP!
[Gàidhlig]
Air latha blàth earraich, thàinig sinn còmhla a-rithist aig An Lòchran ann am Partaig, Glaschu airson Gàidhlig ionnsachadh agus a chleachdadh ann an àrainneachd mhì-fhoirmeil, spòrsail.
An-diugh, bha 13 daoine ann, agus sinn a’ dèanamh nan eacarsaichean ann an 3 sgiobaidhean. Às dèidh dhuinn cur ann an aithne a chèile fad 5 mionaidean, chluich sinn a’ chiad gheama a bh’ againn - Cò Th’ Annam? Bha aig gach sgioba ri tomhas cò an duine ainmeil air an robh mi a-mach, ’s mi / sinn a’ leughadh clues a-mach. Seo eisimpleir:
1. Rugadh agus thogadh mi ann an Uibhist a Tuath
2. Rinn mi cùrsa ann an ceòl tradaiseanta aig Sabhal Mòr Ostaig
3. Tha an ceòl agam a' còrdadh ri Björk agus Ricky Gervais
4. Sheinn mi òrain dhan fhilm "Brave"
5. Mar sheinneadair Gàidhlig, tha mi gu math ainmeil
Ma fhuair iad an fhreagairt cheart às dèidh a’ chiad clue, fhuair iad 3 puingean. Ma fhuair às dèidh clue #2 no #3, ’s e 2 phuing a fhuair iad. Agus ma fhuair às dèidh clue #4 no #5, ’s e 1 phuing a-mhàin a fhuair iad. Saoil cia mheud puingean a bhiodh thusa a’ faighinn? 😉 (Seadh - ’s e Julie Fowlis an fhreagairt cheart, gu dearbh!)
Às dèidh geama #1, rinn sinn eacarsaich-chabadaich a bha stèidhichte air a’ cheist “Ciamar a tha thu ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig? Innis dhuinn ma dheidhinn!” ’S iomadh turas a chleachd sinn a’ cheist seo aig an tachartas dhà-chànanach seo, ach ’s e deagh ice-breaker a th’ innte.
Ghabh sinn fois an uair sin, ’s mise a’ coileanadh an dleastanas agam mar bhalach-tì is cofaidh 😁 Dh’òrdaich a h-uile aoigh ann an Gàidhlig, agus an uair sin chluich sinn geama #2, air an robh Èist Ri Seo! Seo geama a tha bonntaichte air dòigh-ionnsachaidh anns a bheil mise a’ cur tòrr earbsa. Is tric a bhios mi ag èisteachd ri clàraidhean Gàidhlig dhen a h-uile seòrsa, ach is toil leam èisteachd ris an aon chlàradh a-rithist is a-rithist. ’S ann mar sin a thogas mi briathrachas ùr, agus ma thuigeas sinn facal no abairt Ghàidhlig ùr sam bith, is cinnteach gum bi sinn a’ tòiseachadh air an cleachdadh nuair a bhios sinn a’ bruidhinn cuideachd 👍
San t-seagh sin, seo cuid dhe na clàraidhean a bha sinn a’ cleachdadh sa gheama…
Gheibhear na clàraidhean air fad le bhith a’ cliogadh an seo (SpeakGaelic) agus an seo (learngaelic.scot).
Fhuair na 3 sgiobaidhean againn barrachd puingean a rèir duilgheas nan clàraidhean agus ma fhuair iad na ceistean (gu h-àrd ri taobh putan play) ceart no mura d’ fhuair 😁 Aig deireadh a’ gheama bha buannaiche againn, ach cha robh duais shònraichte ann co-dhiù, agus ’s ann glè mhath a rinn a h-uile sgioba 👏
Às dèidh eacarsaich-chabadaich eile timcheall a’ cheist “Dè na h-ùidhean a th’ agad? Innis dhuinn man deidhinn!”, chuir sinn crìoch air an fheasgar le bhith a’ cabadaich ann an Gàidhlig gun fhòrmat sònraichte, a’ gabhail solas na grèine a-muigh agus a’ dol dhan Lios Mhòr an ath-dhoras airson deoch no dhà a ghabhail! 🍻
Bu toil le sgioba An Lòchrain taing a ràdh dhan a h-uile duine a thàinig a-steach an-diugh, agus mòran taing dhan fheadhainn a thug taic dhuinn leis an sgioblachadh agus na soithichean aig deireadh an fheasgair.
Bidh sinn air ais an ath mhìos - agus anns an eadar-àm co-dhiù! Seo far am faigh thu an-còmhnaidh a-mach mu thachartasan ri thighinn: TACHARTASAN.
Le gaol is tòrr grian 🌥️⛅🌤️

[English]
On a warm spring’s day, we got together again at An Lòchran in Partick, Glasgow to learn and use our Gaelic in an informal, fun environment.
Today we had 13 people in, and we did all the exercises in 3 teams. After a round of introductions for the first 5 minutes, we played our first game - Who Am I? Each team had to guess which well-known person I was talking about, as I read out clues. Here’s a wee example:
1. I was born and raised in North Uist
2. I did a course in traditional music at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig college
3. Björk and Ricky Gervais like my music
4. I sang songs for the film "Brave"
5. As a Gaelic singer, I’m very well-known
If they got the answer right after the first clue, they got 3 points. If they got it after clue #2 or #3, they got 2 points. And if they got it after clue #4 or #5, they got just 1 point. How many points do you think you would get? 😉 (Yes - Julie Fowlis is indeed the correct answer!)
Following game #1, we did a speaking exercise based upon the question “Ciamar a tha thu ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig? Innis dhuinn ma dheidhinn!” (How are you learning Gaelic? Tell us about it!) We’ve used this question many times at this bilingual event, but it’s a good ice-breaker.
We then took a break, with me fulfilling my duty as tea and coffee boy 😁 All guests ordered in Gaelic, and then we moved on to game #2, entitled Listen To This! This is a game based on a learning method that I put a lot of stock in. I often listen to all kinds of Gaelic recordings, but I like to listen to the same recording(s) again and again. That’s how I pick up new vocab, and if we understand a new Gaelic word or saying, there’s no doubt we’ll start to use it when we’re speaking too 👍
In that sense, here are some of the recordings we used for the game…
The full recordings can be found by clicking here (SpeakGaelic) and here (learngaelic.scot).
Our three teams received further points according to the difficulty of each recording, and depending on whether they got the questions (see above, next to the play button) right or wrong 😁 At the end of the game we had a winner for the day, but there was no prize for winning as such, and each team did very well 👏
After another speaking exercise based around the question “Dè na h-ùidhean a th’ agad? Innis dhuinn man deidhinn!” (What interests do you have? Tell us about them!), we brought the afternoon to a close by chatting informally in Gaelic, enjoying some sunshine outside and heading next door to the Lismore for a drink or two! 🍻
The An Lòchran team would like to thank everyone who came in today, and big thanks go to those who helped us tidy up and do the dishes at the end.
We’ll be back next month - and in between times anyway! Here’s where you can find out about any events coming up at An Lòchran: EVENTS.
